WACE

The Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) is a program designed by School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) to cater for students who aim to continue their tertiary studies may it be university or via other venues.

Dedication to our students:

Fountain College has a dedicated staff willing to help our Year 11 and 12 students in their spare time. Thanks to our staff, Fountain College is able to offer extra support classes for our Year 11 and 12 students on Saturday. During these classes, students either grasp course content that they previously did not fully comprehend or use these classes to deepen their learning.

Fountain College also offers holiday support classes. During each term break, our dedicated staff come into school to once more provide support to students to help them reach their maximum academic potential.

All this extra support is completely free of charge.

Accelerated Student Program

In 2016, Fountain College began its Accelerated Student Program (APS). The program is constructed such that all Year 11 students finish 2 Year 12 units in Year 11.

Since students take 4 subjects instead of 5 in Year 12, they have more preparation and study time for their other subjects. This allows for a higher ATAR score for students.

The subjects on offer for our Year 11 students in the accelerated learning program are as follows:

Option 1 ATAR Mathematics Applications Unit 3 & 4
Option 2 ATAR Turkish Unit 3 & 4
Option 3 ATAR Arabic Unit 3 & 4

University entry and advantages being at Fountain College:

Fountain College is proud of its graduates. In 2016, all Fountain College Year 12 students graduated and have entered University.

With the help of our dedicated staff and our students’ hard work, 20% of our student base received an ATAR above 90.

A student completing WACE at Fountain College also receives the following advantages:

  • Eligibility for extra ATAR points based on the location of Fountain College,
  • Receiving extra point to the Tertiary Entrance Aggregate (TEA) for completing ATAR Turkish, Arabic or Mathematics Methods/Specialists Unit 3 & 4.

NAPLAN and OLNA

NAPLAN has become a key indicator for the eligibility for a student to receive a WACE. Students who do not demonstrate the minimum standard in NAPLAN must sit the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) and demonstrate the minimum standard. For students who cannot demonstrate the minimum standard in OLNA, the SCSA does not present them with a WACE.

Fountain College takes NAPLAN and OLNA results into consideration when allowing students to continue or entry into Year 11.
